This Week

We've had quite the exciting week! Not only was a friend moving, and other friends butchering chickens, but we had seven chicks hatched. (Some of you may have read my dad's post, "God's Hatchery", inspired by the chick's entrances to the world.)

As exciting as the little peeps are, I still think that kittens are much cuter. Someone apparently dumped these two little ones on us. It wasn't easy catching them, but they're getting used to us. We named them Penny and Nickel.

But even two adorable kittens aren't the big news this week. The big news is that Sunday evening when we got home from church our cow had calved! A pretty little heifer that Dad named Bessie.

She is doing well and is a lot of fun to feed, play with and watch.

Love that picture of the cow, calf and chickens. I'm glad Deuteronomy 28:4 is being fulfilled in your neck of the woods (Blessed shall be ... the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.)

I'm working on: doing cartwheels

Cartwheels, huh? I'm impressed. I used to be able to do a forward roll. In fact, I've even done one several times in the past year (on a softball field, a volleyball court, and at the end of a footrace). But that's been the limit of my "tumbling" expertise.

:D

I'm listening: to the sounds of silence

I like some of the stuff Simon & Garfunkel put out. But I don't presently have that recording.

Another CREC Xanga'er listens to the same thing ...

My condolences on your tumbling, JFC. :-o

Neither do I...or if I do I don't know where! I actually was just listening to silence- although I do like some Simon & Garfunkel.

Thanks, Deborah Anne! :-) That is too bad about your chicks! :-/ We had a scary moment when the kittens decided that the brooder was the nicest place to nap, but some extra chicken wire solved that.
Congratulations on your guinea-lings! :-) Wow, that is pretty tiny... I've never seen a guinea-ling... what color are they?

Oh, it is so good to see your cow!! It looks Guernsey and Jersey. Beautiful. Love that full udder too. It is so fun to see all the farm animals intermingle. You won't see that on a factory farm. Our cows and calves often play with the chickens. Depending on the day, the will do a rodeo round up or just sniff them to give them a good squawk.

Thanks for the comment, Mrs. Fuller! :-)
We think she is a Jersey... how pure a Jersey is anyone's guess. Bessie has been chasing chickens, so I know exactly what you mean! :-)

Well, Sarah, we have two cows, one calf, three cats, two dogs, and roughly 30 chickens, poults, and chicks. :-)

Thanks, Zolyb12! I'm glad you stopped by and left a comment... it is always fun to read who has visited and where they've come from. :-)
